Bowlz N’ Thangz

For Sarah Hovis and Amanda Mathiason, launching Bowlz N’ Thangz, a Twin Ports-based food truck, was about more than just great food, it was about building a future. With Sarah’s passion for cooking and a shared vision for entrepreneurship, they saw the region’s booming food truck industry as the perfect opportunity to create something they could eventually retire into.

Two years into their journey, Bowlz N’ Thangz has become a staple in the local food scene, offering a diverse menu that keeps customers coming back for more. But running a business isn’t just about serving up great dishes, it also means managing finances, planning for growth, and making strategic decisions. That’s where Northland SBDC stepped in to help.

“Christopher and Northland SBDC were an immense help assisting us with our business plan and financial projections to secure funding.”

Referred to Northland SBDC by their lender, Sarah and Amanda worked closely with Northland SBDC Business Consultant, Christopher Henagin, who provided expert guidance on their business plan and financial projections. With his support, they gained clarity on their financials, refined their goals, and successfully secured funding to expand their business. Northland SBDC was also able to offer Bowlz N’ Thangz training on how to set up and use QuickBooks to help their business stay on top of financial tracking in the long run.

“Christopher and Northland SBDC were an immense help assisting us with our business plan and financial projections to secure funding. In addition, the QuickBooks expert assisted us in really looking at what we were currently producing with our business, and where we wanted to go with it and connecting those dots,” Sarah shared.

According to Christopher, “Sarah and Amanda were able to clearly articulate their goals, from where they intended to pull their owners’ equity, to what they needed the funding for, to purchasing a new space that would allow them to store and expand their food truck operations. With a solid plan and financial projections in place, they were able to secure the funding needed to take their business to the next level.”

For Sarah and Amanda, the most rewarding part of owning their business is the freedom it provides, being in control of their own schedule, income, and creative vision. As they look ahead, growth is their top priority. With a strong business foundation and a clear plan, they are excited to see their vision come to life. Thanks to their hard work, dedication, and the support of Northland SBDC, Bowlz N’ Thangz is set to keep serving up success, one dish at a time.
